TRX Exercises for Stronger, Leaner Legs

Working out is simple. You don't need an advanced program with fancy equipment to achieve your goals. It's easy; eat real food, move your body, and combine strength and conditioning work to your training routine.

While you could accomplish your fitness goals with just your own body and a good pair of running shoes, there are tools that can certainly help you on your journey. One piece of equipment is the TRX Suspension Trainer.

Why Use the TRX Suspension Trainer?

The TRX Suspension Trainer is extremely versatile and can be used to train the entire body. You can use it at the gym, your home, the local park or playground. Plus it eliminates the popular excuse, "I don't have a gym membership".

In addition to its versatility, the suspension trainer provides countless benefits:

  • Balance and coordination
  • Strength, endurance, power and flexibility
  • For all levels: Easy to modify and provide progressions or regressions
  • Stand to train: People sit too much
  • All core all the time: Your core must stay engaged throughout every exercise
  • Posterior chain: Backside training is important for imbalances and posture
  • Unilateral benefits: Working one side of the body at a time will help with asymmetries and injury prevention

If your fitness goals are to be happy, healthy, stronger, injury free and to look better at the beach, then do training routines that focus on improving movement patterns instead of just isolating specific muscles. This whole-body approach is the most effective way to get the results you want.

With that said, you can separate exercises out based on their muscle-area focus and movement emphasis. I typically utilize a "template" approach when creating workouts and programs. I have a menu of movements and then I just "plug and play" so to speak. Meaning, when I'm putting workouts together and creating the routine(s), I will refer to this menu and plug the appropriate movements into the routine based on the unique needs of the client.

For the purposes of this article, we are going to focus on TRX Suspension Trainer movements that will help to strengthen the lower body. Let's first look at a list of lower-body exercises and then I'll show you how to plug them into a full-body strength training routine.
