Is RV Renting the Best Option?

Do You Have a Place to Store It?

Standard, or mid-size, RVs can range from 20 feet to 25 feet in length; this vehicle will not sit comfortably in the average driveway or backyard. Because of this, a critical question to answer is whether you'll have storage available. If so, is it free or will it be a drain on your savings every month?

  • Rent: If you have nowhere to store the vehicle or don't want to pay monthly storage fees.
  • Buy: If you have free storage, don't have to store it that often, or are willing to pay storage fees.

How Many People Will be Going?

For this trip, and those in the future, you need to estimate the amount of people you'll be traveling with. RV's come in multiple sizes ranging from compact – which is van sized – to large – which can be 30 feet long, at most. The smaller vehicle may be more manageable for handling, storage and price; however, it can only fit three people comfortably.

  • Rent: If you're traveling with a large group, and don't want to shell out for a large vehicle, RV renting is the way to go. Being able to split the rent cost may be more affordable.
  • Buy: If price or storage is an issue, but there are minimal people traveling with you, buy the compact RV. It's easier to store, and easier on your funds.

There are a number of variables to take into consideration when deciding between RV renting vs. buying. However, when you ask the right questions, the question of whether to buy or rent is much easier to answer.
