Benefits of Decompression Through Yoga

In the fast-paced society we live in, many desire instant gratification. Whether it's a diet plan or exercise program, people tend to want quick results.

This mentality can make people susceptible to compression. Bodies are compressed through vigorous workout routines that claim to burn a ton of calories, and minds are compressed through social media and the pressures of work, school or family.

To help yourself shift away from these unhealthy habits and decompress instead, try yoga and meditation. These practices are the most ancient form of decompression--not only for the body, but also for the mind.

The Benefits of Yoga

Yoga is a Hindu spiritual and aesthetic discipline, which incorporates breath control, simple meditation and the adoption of specific body postures for health benefits and relaxation.

Although yoga has a storied history and visible benefits for those who practice, there are still many who have yet to try it.

Anyone who lifts weights or participates in sports should consider trying yoga because it can help to preserve joints, ligaments and connective tissue. When you lift weights, your body receives an external load. When you add forces to the body, you're compressing the connective tissue and joints.

Yoga can also provide psychological benefits. Many people lead stressful lives through demanding jobs, family issues and other daily challenges. Yoga can teach you ways to let go of your mental and physical stressors so you no longer hold onto them in your mind or body.
